Condensation of water on the evaporator coils in the front of an air conditioner is normal. This water collects in a pan where it is evaporated. On days with high humidity, you may notice some water dripping off the unit.

A properly installed unit will be tipped slightly back to allow any excess water to drip out the back. Do not poke/drill into the housing to add drain holes as damage can occur to the unit.

If your air conditioner is spitting or spraying water inside the room, several things may be causing the problem:

  • The base pan may be clogged with grass or dirt. If this is the case, the unit may need to be professionally cleaned.
  • The unit may be improperly installed. It should be tilted slightly back and not tilted into the room.
  • The air filter may need to be cleaned.
