Haier chest freezers are not self-defrosting (frost free) and may require occasional defrosting depending on use. Defrost whenever frost on the wall of the freezer becomes 1/4" thick. Do not use metal instruments to clear ice or frost from the freezer.

To defrost:

  1. Remove any food from the freezer compartment.

  2. Turn the temperature control to Off and unplug the freezer.

  3. For draining, place a tray beneath the outer drain plug.

  4. Unscrew and remove the drain plug. This will let the water flow out in the tray. Monitor the container under the drain to avoid overflow.

  5. Allow the unit to defrost several hours or overnight with the doors open.

  6. After defrosting and draining is complete, wipe the moisture off all surfaces with a soft, dry cloth.

  7. Plug in the unit and adjust the temperature setting to the desired setting.

  8. Return all food to the appliance.
